Rogério Paulo Vieira, sou brasileiro e moro em São Paulo/Brasil, trabalho na área fiscal-tributária do governo estadual de São Paulo, sendo escritor por hobby na área de FC e fantástico. Tenho 45 anos, sou formado em Ciências Atuariais e em Ciências Contábeis. Tive contos publicados num fanzine brasileiro chamado “Megazine Scarium” (tanto em papel como no site) e, recentemente, um conto publicado na coletânea “A Fantástica Literatura Queer” da editora brasileira Tarja Editorial. Como você começou na FC?

A lembrança mais antiga que tenho de FC são antigos animes (desenho animado japonês) que passavam na TV e que tinham algumas características de FC (robôs, seres alienígenas, tecnologias avançadas etc.). Eu também assistia a filmes e seriados na TV, gostando principalmente da série clássica de Star Trek, Perdidos no Espaço, Ultraman entre outras. Depois de alfabetizado, eu lia alguns livros dessa área existentes na biblioteca da cidade na qual nasci e onde passei a infância e a adolescência. Mas eram poucos livros disponíveis sobre o tema, pois era uma cidade pequena.

Espere um minuto. O meu favorito anime Space Battleship Yamato (Patrulha Estelar) é o Capitão Harlock do Leiji Matsumoto. Você e eu somos da mesma idade. Será que vimos o mesmo animé? Você ta sabendo que este ano foi o lançamento do filme Patrulha Estelar com atores?

Sempre vejo citações a esse anime, mas eu não o acompanhava. Como os fãs desse anime aqui no Brasil são pessoas um pouco mais novas do que eu, creio que não assisti a ele por pouco, talvez porque o horário de exibição coincidisse com meu horário de escola. Os mais antigos animes que me lembro acompanhar, e que tinham características de FC, eram “Super-Dínamo” (no Japão chamava-se “Paa Man” e, em alguns países, “El Hombre Par” ou “Perman”; era sobre um grupo de garotos que receberam de um alienígena apetrechos que lhes deram super-poderes), “Homem de Aço” (no Japão, “Tetsujin 28-Go“, e “Gigantor” em outros países, que era um robô controlado por um garoto) e “Príncipe Planeta” (no Japão, “Yûsei Shonen Papi”, que era um garoto alienígena que tinha a missão de trazer ordem e paz ao planeta Terra).
Mas sei do lançamento da versão “live action” de Patrulha Estelar, pois vi os trailers e trechos divulgados e achei-os bem interessantes. Vi também reclamações de fãs que estavam encontrando somente a versão dublada em inglês do filme, mas queriam o original falado em japonês.

E quando você sentiu o desejo de escrever?

Foi relativamente recente: há um pouco mais de dez anos. Comecei a escrever após receber um conto que uma conhecida estava escrevendo para o qual ela pediu minha opinião. Ao ler o conto, tive uma ideia para uma outra historia e resolvi escrevê-la (é o conto “Ela”, disponível em http://www.scarium.com.br/contos/conto_08.htm). Lembro-me também de experimentar escrever pequenos contos para um pequeno periódico da Mensa Brasil (http://www.mensa.org.br/), tendo um conto desses publicados nele.

Quais os temas que você gosta de abordar em suas histórias?

Gosto de expor a influência que novas tecnologias teriam na vida das pessoas e no relacionamento entre elas. Mas, ultimamente, tenho escrito mais na área do fantástico, que permite um liberdade e diversidade maior.

Qual é a sua aspiração? Fama?

Seria bom se viesse a fama :) Mas, pelo que vejo no Brasil, se nem os escritores brasileiros de FC mais publicados conseguem algum destaque no meio literário em geral, quem dirá de alguém que não escreve muito como eu? Minha aspiração mais realista é conseguir publicar um ou outro conto nas coletâneas que aceitam submissões e atingir o maior número de leitores que se divirtam com esses contos.

O que faz você julgar se uma história é boa ou ruim?

Nas primeiras páginas, se eu estiver curioso em saber como a história se encaminha, se ficar curioso quanto ao que acontecerá com determinados personagens, se ficar ansioso em saber como o problema apresentado será resolvido, considero que é uma boa história.

Você concorda com o “trabalho de revisão”? Quem deve executá-las?

Acho necessário que alguém experiente ou com conhecimento revise o texto, pois o autor pode cometer erros ou incoerências sem percebê-los. Primeiramente, os leitores-beta são essenciais para sugerirem alterações. Depois, vem o editor. Todavia, sempre é difícil ouvir-se críticas.

O que você acha de neologismos?

Acho que devem ser evitados, pois tiram a fluidez do texto, tornando a leitura menos agradável por serem palavras “intrusas”. E, quando inevitável, devem ser palavras curtas e de fácil pronúncia.

O que é a FC para você?

Inicialmente, uma forma de diversão, uma forma de viver ou ver outras vidas em outros tempos ou em outros mundos. Mas, se uma história realmente é bem escrita, pode ser uma forma de compreender o mundo, as pessoas e a mim mesmo, ou de pensar em certos questionamentos que ignorava.

Qual de seus contos é o mais querido por você? Por quê?

É um fanfiction que escrevi no universo de Star Trek, com o título de “Borgs – O Início”. Trata-se de uma noveleta que aborda a origem dos borgs, que é uma curiosa raça inimiga. Como era uma história não contada na série, sempre tive vontade de escrevê-la. Dediquei muito tempo no desenvolvimento do enredo e das personagens. E fico feliz por ter recebido elogios de leitores. Mas não escrevo mais fanfiction, pois não dá para publicar em papel, por conta dos direitos autorais. Bem que eu gostaria de escrever uma continuação dessa noveleta. Há leitores que me pediram isso. Quanto a outros contos, acabo sempre gostando mais daqueles que acabei de terminar, por achar que eles estão mais criativos do que os anteriores.

Dá vontade de ler essa história. É possível que, um dia, os países de línguas portuguesa e espanhola compartilhem suas literaturas da mesma forma que os países de língua inglesa? Estamos tão perto e tão longe ao mesmo tempo.

Eu gostaria que a língua inglesa fosse a segunda língua oficial em todos os países, pois facilitaria e promoveria bastante o intercâmbio cultural. Por exemplo, tenho grande curiosidade em conhecer a FC chinesa. E seria interessante ver em que países a literatura de determinado país faria sucesso.

Você acha que existem leitores para o que você escreve?

Como recebo algum comentário de leitores de vez em quando, digo que sim. Mas não são a maioria dos que apreciam a área de ficção científica ou o fantástico em geral. Como gosto de centrar-me nas personagens e no relacionamento entre eles, acaba não agradando boa parte do público de ficção científica, que creio gostar mais de tecnologias e descrição de ambientes futuristas.

Você tem um favorito e-zine?

Não. Não acompanho nenhum. Acho que há um problema de propaganda deles no Brasil, ou melhor, um problema de divulgação informal, pois praticamente não vejo resenhas de e-zines, que despertem o interesse na leitura. Há alguma divulgação, mas não vem acompanhada de uma opinião minimamente balizada, que leve o leitor a interessar-se. Além disso, tenho tantos livros em papel a ler, que não dá tempo de pesquisar por contos na internet.

Existe algum escritor contemporâneo que você acompanha?

Sim, mas não é de ficção científica. Gosto muito dos livros do José Saramago. Lia-o antes dele ter ganho um Prêmio Nobel de Literatura. Já li quase tudo o que ele escreveu e gostei muito de alguns dos livros, não de todos. Gostei de: "O Evangelho Segundo Jesus Cristo", "Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira", "Todos os Nomes", "A Caverna", "O Homem Duplicado". Também presto atenção ao que o Neil Gaiman publica. Dele, gostei de "Sandman" (a série em quadrinhos), "Coraline", "Stardust", "Belas Maldições", "Os Filhos de Anansi".

Eu amo Saramago! É um transgressor do talento narrativo. Eu também li muitas histórias de Sandman. Lembro-me de quando ele tinha as chaves do inferno.Mas você poderia citar alguns mais conhecidos escritores brasileiros de FC?

Não há nenhum escritor brasileiro de FC que eu esteja acompanhando. Li alguns livros e contos brasileiros de FC e tenho alguns livros comprados ainda a ler, além de outros que pretendo comprar mais adiante. Qual é o seu autor favorito?

Tirando o Saramago e o Gaiman citados acima, eu não tenho outro autor favorito, mesmo na ficção científica. Há outras obras que considero minhas favoritas, mas são de autores diversos. Por exemplo:

Em sua opinião, os autores de FC estão trabalhando em conjunto ou como indivíduos isolados?

No Brasil, atualmente, parece-me que há muitos autores trabalhando em conjunto, pois o que mais é lançado de autores brasileiros no mercado de ficção científica são coletâneas. Cada conto é escrito de forma individual por cada autor, mas não é incomum que ele use outro autores como leitores-beta, que podem sugerir alterações ou correções.

O que você acha dos ilustradores?

Fazem um trabalho importante. A começar-se pela capa, que tem a responsabilidade de atrair o leitor e traduzir numa imagem o conteúdo do livro. E creio que algumas ilustrações dentro da obra ajudam a tornar a leitura mais agradável, embora sejam raras obras adultas com alguma ilustração. Um bom ilustrador pode deixar um livro bonito e atraente.

É importante a divulgação de novas FC?

Sim, pois só assim para novos autores serem descobertos. E a literatura, principalmente a FC, é dinâmica: a forma de se contar uma história muda com o tempo e novas tecnologias e descobertas científicas mudam a forma como o futuro é previsto.

O que você acha do autor publicar sua própria obra?

Desde que tenha passado por outras pessoas sinceras na revisão, é uma opção diante da dificuldade que novos autores têm para que suas obras sejam sequer lidas pelas editoras profissionais. É necessário cuidado, no Brasil, com pequenas editoras que, desde que você pague, publica o que você entregar, tenha qualidade literária ou não.

Isso também acontece na Argentina. E é pior com o advento dos blogs. Ficou sentido com alguma revisão do editor que publicou sua obra? Ou que não tenha publicado uma obra sua?

Como só tive um conto publicado em livro, só tenho uma experiência, e foi boa. Não escrevo muito e só nos últimos dois anos é que resolvi mandar contos para as poucas coletâneas que aceitassem submissões.

Você vê TV atualmente?

Sim, gosto de algumas séries, de um ou outro filme, de documentários e de telejornais. Gosto de documentários históricos ou científicos. Tem sido difícil aparecer uma série boa de FC, então me satisfaço com séries dramáticas ou na área do fantástico que sejam bem desenvolvidas.

Quais séries de TV você está acompanhando?

Game of Thrones, Dexter, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men. Considero-as entre muito boas a excelentes. Há algumas que já encerraram e que também gostei muito: Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, In Treatment, Carnivàle, Battlestar Galactica (2003), Lost, Band of Brothers, Roma.

Carnivàle! Eu realmente gosto Carnivàle! Foi uma vergonha não terminar a série. Meus amigos não gostavam. O que você acha dos avanços tecnológicos na vida cotidiana?

Aprecio muito, mas eu acho que os avanços práticos são muito lentos para serem implementados. Eu gostaria, por exemplo, que tudo já reconhecesse comandos de voz. Assim, bastaria eu chegar em casa e pedir para a televisão ligar em determinado canal, para que o computador ligasse e baixasse os arquivos de links informados etc. Já existem modelos de casas inteligentes, mas não é uma tecnologia que encontra-se disseminada.

O que você acha das novas formas de comunicação? E sobre redes sociais?

Eu acho ótimo tanta informação estar disponível. Mesmo que haja o problema de confiabilidade na informação, pode-se conferir várias fontes para se ter certeza ou acessar somente fontes mais confiáveis. Todavia, é preocupante o tempo que se perde trocando informações que são irrelevantes, o que é possível por se estar sempre disponível através de alguma forma de comunicação. Aqui no Brasil não é incomum ouvir-se pessoas conversando no celular enquanto usam o banheiro. Gosto das redes sociais, é um meio de conhecer-se outras pessoas e outras formas de pensar, mas ocorrem esses mesmos problemas que acabei de citar.

Agora os meninos têm aventuras através de videogames ou filmes com histórias condicionadas pelo merchandising. Você acha que isso substituirá a literatura tradicional?

Cada meio que se utiliza para “contar uma história” tem suas peculiaridades. Por exemplo, um videogame precisa focar mais na ação e um filme precisa resumir a história. Assim, videogames ou filmes não são substitutos completos. Só através da leitura de um livro é que se tem a experiência completa de uma história. Mas, sem dúvida, essas tecnologias competem com o mercado de livros.

Por que você acha que, na opinião geral, a FC é tão desvalorizada?

No cinema, a FC é valorizada, com vários filmes de FC que bateram recordes de bilheteria. Logo, o problema está em como é contada a história. No cinema, a história é resumida para seus principais pontos e não há, logicamente, necessidade de longos trechos descritivos ou explicativos. Na forma escrita, vejo prolixidade em muitos autores e uma maçante descrição detalhada de ambientes, de tecnologias ou de alienígenas. Isso é falta de técnica e falta de um bom revisor ou editor. Também percebo que muitos jovens que gostavam de ler FC quando crianças ou adolescentes, não a leem mais quando adultos e creio que isso ocorra por conta também desses problemas que citei. E, pelo que se vê na prática, o público feminino brasileiro geralmente não sente atração por histórias sobre tecnologias e alienígenas, o que já reduz o público leitor de FC quase pela metade da população que costuma consumir literatura.

Você imagina que um dia conquistaremos o espaço como ocorre em Star Trek?

É essencial que isso ocorra, pois, no longuíssimo prazo, a espécie humana corre risco de sobrevivência vivendo apenas num planeta. Mas parece-me que será em um ritmo bem mais lento do que em Star Trek.

Se houvesse um holocausto climático ou ecológico, o que você faria?

Creio que eu seria egoísta e prático: pensaria em como eu e minha família poderíamos sobreviver ou ter a vida não tão difícil de ser levada.

Qual é o seu filme de FC favorito?

Gostei muito de Gattaca, que é um filme de 1997. É um filme cuja força está no roteiro e não nos efeitos especiais. E trata-se de uma história de FC em pleno sentido, pois mostra como pode ser complicado viver com certas tecnologias.

Sim, Gattaca e o filme muito bom. Você acha que os escritores de FC são nerds distantes da realidade?

Creio que boa parte sejam nerds, no sentido de gostarem de tecnologia e procurarem manter-se informados a respeito (o que é essencial, se pretendem ser bons escritores). Mas todos os escritores de FC estão bem a par da realidade. Arrisco afirmar que estão mais a par da realidade do que a maioria da população.

Qual foi o último conto de FC que leu?

Foi um conto antigo: O Carteiro (The Postman), de David Brin, que achei muito bom.

Você acha que alguém vai ler este diálogo?

Não faço a menor ideia, mas é uma honra participar desse seu blog e fazer companhia aos outros entrevistados, pois sou ainda um escritor amador. E trata-se de minha primeira entrevista como escritor, e, ainda por cima, uma entrevista internacional!

Hi, who are you? Introduce yourself in your own words, please.

Hi. I'm Alan Grant, Scottish comic-writer who has been fortunate enough to work on some of the comic world's greatest characters.

How did your liking of comics start?

When I was three years old, my wheelchair-bound grandmother taught me how to read, using British humour comics as her teaching aids. She started my love affair with comics which has never ended.

And when did you feel the impulse to write comic scripts?

When I was growing up, I was desperate to become a comic artist. But my artwork was, frankly, crap. So I became a magazine journalist, writing features and editing "true romance" stories for girls...and going slowly insane. When my friend John Wagner started writing Judge Dredd for 2000AD, he asked me if I could take over writing the Tarzan stories which he'd been handling up till that time. My first-ever story was "Tarzan and the Sabre-Toothed Tiger".

What subjects do you like to deal with in your stories?

Although most of my stories fit into the science fiction and superhero genres, I like to bring a sense of the real world to my work. Also, wherever possible, I like my stories to be humorous.

What is your aspiration, fame?

I have no interest in fame, no desire to be famous. I'm happy to live my life doing what I love, writing comics.

How do you judge whether a script is good or bad?

If it's a humour story, it has to make me laugh. If it's a tragedy, it has to bring tears to my eyes. I figure that if it works on me, my fans will like it, too.

Do you agree with publication screening? Who should perform it?

I've never met any writer (or artist) who hasn't benefited from having a good editor. Sadly, there aren't too many of them around. I've been lucky - the great Denny O'Neil was my editor on Batman, and I learned a great deal from him.

How was your experience in 2000AD?

Brilliant! I started work as an assistant editor on 2000AD, working with some of Britain's top talents - the writers John Wagner and Pat Mills, and artists like Brian Bolland, Carlos Ezquerra, Dave Gibbons, Brett Ewins etc etc. I became a freelance writer after a couple of years, and some of the happiest days of my life were spent co-writing (with John Wagner) the adventures of Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Sam Slade RoboHunter and a dozen other series.

One of my favorite characters is Judge Dredd. I love all the characters. It is true that Pat Mills and John Wagner created the universe. Was it difficult for you to do stories about Dredd?

Wagner and Mills did indeed create the 2000AD "universe". It wasn't difficult for me to write stories about Dredd because I learned directly from the master himself, John Wagner. We share a very similar sense of dark humour, which made life easy. We used to read through the tabloid newspapers every day, looking for ideas which we could extrapolate into the future world of 2000AD.

I tell you I really enjoyed the adventure of Judge Child. Judge Anderson also worked on and Strontium Dogs. Ah! And Sam Slade, Robo Hunter! What can you tell us about that experience?
I started off writing all of these stories in partnership with John Wagner. He had become quite ill, and needed a writing partner to help him keep up with the demanding deadlines which working on weekly series involve. For me, working on these characters was like being a child in a candy store!

We ended our partnership after about 10 years, although we remain close friends and still sometimes get together to work on scripts (especially on our Scottish "hero", the Bogie Man).

Then went to DC to write Batman. Batmanis a character thatyou likealways?

I've been a Batman fan since I was 4 years old, when my emigrant cousin started sending back packages of superhero comics from the USA. What I liked - and still like - about Batman was that he was a self-made hero; he had no superpowers of any kind, no bite from a radioactive spider, no cosmic rays, no aliens to help him out.

To me, it always seemed that anyone could be a Batman, if they persevered in life, always learning.

I remember the dialogues between Dredd and Batman in “Vendetta in Gotham”. Dredd was Batman as a vigilante. The ending is clever after seeing them fight for so many pages How was it working with Cam Kennedy?

Cam Kennedy is also Scottish, and we've been friends for 25 years now. My family goes to stay in his house, his family comes to stay in my house. He has a very similar sense of humour to John Wagner and me, and he is a great storyteller (also a great cook!). When he first started drawing our Judge Dredd scripts, John and I went to stay with him on the Orkney Islands and had a fantastic time.

You know. Working with artists that I admire greatly. Brian Bolland, Mike MacHamond, Simon Bisley. When I see what you did last Bisley, my desire is to achieve its rich graphics, the same happens to me with the Brian Bolland works. How was working on Berserker?

Working with Simon Bisley is always a great adventure. Surely he is one of the greatest-ever comic artists. He has a very short attention span, so you have to spend a lot of time keeping him amused and interested! When we work together, there are always many phone calls lasting an hour or more. His family and my family have also become good friends.

Also adaptto Robocop films about comic books Did you work with Frank Miller?

I've met Frank Miller, but we've never worked together. Marvel just sent me a copy of his RoboCop film script, and I adapted it without any input from Frank.

What are Comics to you?

The greatest medium of all. I much prefer comics to movies or TV or computer games.

Which of your scripts is the one you cherish the most? Why?

A hard question to answer - I have a favourite story for every character I've worked on. With Batman, it was perhaps The Nobody (Shadow of the Bat *13), although I loved Norm Breyfogle's work so much I like every Batman story he ever drew. The Nobody was a simple tale, which tried to answer the question "Why does Batman do what he does?"
I also like the stories I did about Anarky, the teenage vigilante.

With Judge Anderson, it was the series called "Satan", drawn by one of the UK's best artists, Arthur Ranson. I very much enjoyed bringing the Devil/Satan into 2000AD's future world.

For Judge Dredd, it was the "Democracy" storyline, drawn by John Higgins. Dredd, of course, is very anti-democratic so he thought nothing of executing people who believed in democracy. This is a very poignant, though violent, tale.

My favourite Lobo story was perhaps the very first mini-series, with Bisley on art. Lobo was such a breath of fresh air to write, because he's a total anarchic anti-hero, who doesn't give a shit about anybody else. But I enjoyed writing the monthly Lobo, too, with great artwork by Val Semieks.

Do you have any favorite e-zine?

No. I don't have much time to surf the InterNet, so I guess I miss out on quite a lot.

Is there any contemporary scriptwriter you are the follower of?

I read every story I can written by John Wagner and Alan Moore.

Who is your favorite scriptwriter?

Without a doubt, John Wagner.

In your opinion, do comic scriptwriters cooperate with each other or are isolated individuals?

In my experience, most comic writers are loners. I prefer working in isolation with no input from anyone else (except perhaps the editor). But DC Comics used to hold regular scriptwriters' meetings, where I got to know Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon and many others - we had to work on many multi-part tales and crossovers, so it helped to have us all in the same room at the same time!

What do you think of artists ?

I envy them! I always wanted to be an artist, so I have the greatest respect for people who can actually draw - and who can tell the story in pictures.

Is it important the diffusion of new developments in comics?

Yes. Comics is the only medium which forces its readers/viewers to use both hemispheres of the brain at the same time, which in my opinion makes it the greatest medium of all. So any new development is an important one.

What do you think of self publishing?

I'm all for it. However - as I have found out to my cost - it's much harder for a self-publisher to get good distribution than it is for the major publishers. To anyone thinking of self-publishing, I would caution - Be careful! It might end up costing you a lot more than you've budgeted for.

Would you dare to give an opinion on an editor who had published you? Or had not published you?

I prefer to keep my opinions to myself regarding editors. I would only observe that some of them are more concerned with giving work to their friends than to people who can do the job better. The best editor I ever worked for was Denny O'Neil, truly one of comics' all-time greats.

Do you watch television?

Not a lot. I was off work, ill, for 8 months last year and was unable to do much except watch TV. I was horrified at how bad most programmes are. I sometimes watch "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons", but my favourite show is "Coronation Street", which is Britain's longest-running soap opera; they always get the best scriptwriters.

What do you think of daily-life technological developments?

Well...because I live in the countryside, I'd be lost without my car! And because I live in a country with a rotten climate (Scotland), I really appreciate central heating and washing machines! Computers have made writing easier - no more carbon copies needed.

What do you think of the new forms of communication? And of social networks?

E-mail is great, much faster than the telephone. But e-mail has a downside - I sometimes receive 30 or 40 e-mails a day, all of which have to be dealt with before I can get down to work, so it's very time-consuming.

Although I have a Facebook page, and 3,500 Facebook friends, I don't have a lot of time for social networking sites. They steal so much time away from what I think is important - writing stories.

Nowadays youngsters follow adventures via videogames or movie stories conditioned by merchandising: do you feel this is going to replace traditional literature?

I hope not! Movies and videogames engage only one half of the brain - the other half goes into a sort of trance. But I don't think traditional literature will ever die - look at the world-wide popularity of Harry Potter, for instance.

Why do you think that, for the general public, comics are low-quality things or solely for children?

When I was a child in school, I was sometimes punished - physically, via the belt - for reading comics in class. Today, I get phone calls and e-mails from many teachers asking me to go and talk to their classes about comics...because so many of today's kids have no interest in reading at all.

It may have been true in the past that comics were of low-quality and primarily aimed at children, but many of today's comics are extremely sophisticated and demand adult attention.

If there was a climate or ecology holocaust, what would you do?

Make sure my family were around me. I have a huge garden, so we'd be able to grow our own food. And we could sit around the campfire at night, telling stories to each other. (I'd also ask the local policeman to give me back my gun, which I handed in to him for safekeeping!)

Which is your favorite comic-based movie?

Alan Moore and David Lloyd's "V for Vendetta." It's a very grim movie, but we live in a grim world.

Do you think that comic writers are nerds or bookworms detached from reality?

Maybe some are. But most of the writers I know are deeply engaged with trying to make their readers laugh or cry...and the whole range of emotions in between.

You worked for Epic, Dark Horse, Image How do you imagine the future of comics?

I'd like to think it will be like Manga in Japan - comics for children, businessmen, housewives...every sub-group in the world will have its own comic stories. It's true that circulations have shrunk disastrously since the "boom" of the late 1980s and 1990s, but I don't think comics will ever die. They're too important for that.

Which was the last comic you read?

2000AD - I'm reading John Wagner's latest Judge Dredd epic.

What are your future projects?

I'm still writing various things like Judge Anderson for 2000AD. I'm also working on a comic for autistic children. I have a graphic novel coming out soon about the 1812 war between America and Canada. My very irreverent "Tales of the Buddha" (art by Jon Haward) will be released as a download soon. And I'm working on a new superhero concept for a well-known non-comic personality (still top secret).

Three years ago, Charly JB, one of my best editors wrote to tell me that a writer was developing his idea for a story about zombies. I did not take the news with much encouragement, I've seen zombie movies and the truth are not my favorites. A few weeks later I receive the script Moraneus, who knew Landzer magazine staff. As always after the usual indications about the characters and the environment began to work, but needed to add something to motivate me. It was easy to find because the story was just gore but not much humor. A fine was not humor in the dialogues but playing with the images. One of the references to the weather was the film Creep. At that same month had seen it, but I am a fan of Sam Raimi, I wanted to give my true style zombies EVIL DEAD. So the firefighter jets of blood, body proportion, broken and infected. Strong men nearly indestructible and very sexy girls. All this was in the mind of Charly and Moraneus, I just exploits it to the fullest. He had completed about fifteen pages when Landzer closed and the project was canceled. The following years I was doing other stories, novels, biographies and a few other posters and illustration work. With the script in the drawer of my desk it occurred to me finish the story of 60 pages in my spare time. I added a few gags, a nod to my favorite rock bands and comic books in pages to set and the action scenes. Up to several text version Argentinize, as many scenarios can be recognized in the Buenos Aires city. Since I worked very quiet, without constraints, the gains realized in my entire, experimenting with new techniques and greatly improving the drawing from the front pages. After offering different publishers, I thought it best to publish it anyway, friends sites, even had agreed on a publication, when Charly wrote me asking if I had finished Mortal Zombie. I said yes, but only give the color. The news was that Virtualbuk was interested in giving the project the green light. The rest was just a little more work and finally, after many twists and turns already MORTAL ZOMBIE for sale. It was hard work, I have special affection because I did it over a period of transition between the crude and hysterical style he used in the stories in Black & White for the biographies and east, linked to the underground and European journals which is I like most. I have been told that you have some manga. I never thought so, but a friend commented to me, who knows why. Here some unpublished pages, I hope you like them.

Heroic Fantasy in Barricada Comics

Reading the post in the group Barricade I found out that they were gliding to do the special one on Sword and Sorceress. Always I liked to draw Barbarian warriors and these things. So I signed in the list of Fernando Sosa. Already there were many scriptwriters and draftsmen working, they spent a script to Me and it was a surprise to meet again with Pedro Belushi with whom I did several episodes of Shocks, one of the tales that goes out in Axxón e-zine. Here they can see some emblems of the comic that we did for this one specially of Barricade, are colored by me, but those who will appear in the magazine will be published by gray attachés by Pedro. I wait they like them.

Illustrations of the end of Sálvat second series

This are the images that accompany the closing of Sálvat, the Nomad second series. I used new technologies(skills), a bit thinking about the last part and in the works that it was doing at the same time for my other story "Confronts of gods". The story suffered many modifications and corrections. I motivate for that the delivery time in spanish e-zine Aurora bitzine delayed my publisher. I took freedoms ultimately, including many lyrics of songs, (Heavy metal songs off course) always I do it, but I do not pass from one or three songs. For this story I used of many to tell the action. As anecdote, there appears a character called Liu, the same one who already was intervening in that crossover of Sálvat and Alexis Brito Delgado's Dorian Stark in short storie we are called "Blood Brothers". It show very much on the origin of the same one. I wait they like the story and drawings.

AC/DC, Judge Dredd, Mortal Zombie - Comics almost abandoned

Hugo García, a Jedbangers magazine editor and great promoter of national Jevi move. Talk to me about made an argentine version of AC/DC comic book. Hugo was so excited as I was in this project. However when I was finishing the fourth page, he wrote me a mail. He was not sure a comic Bio. The project is fall, unfinished.

Another comic that took me some time is Mortal Zombie, a tale, sometimes abandoned for months to retake other win. That eventually I will refine the way of working and discovering new possibilities. Is good that you have all that exercise discipline is improved. This image is two Mortal Zombie’s pages together, almost reaching the end of the story. Hope you like. Sálvat Illustrations

Sálvat, a Nomad Adventures, public bimonthly in Aurora Bitzine. As I once said, my original intention was recreate an emulation of my admired Conan the barbarian. But I failed. The finished result being an adventurer with many differences with the style can be expected on Heroic Fantasy. I think it was because they change environment,time and place.

Sálvat live in a post holocaust future. the survivors retreated to a barbarian state among tecnologics ruins of previous CIVILIZATION. Gradually, the character I was going to the rocknroll rebel. I was following the model of the warrior, like RPGs. Introduce elements of esotericism, as has the sorcerers. The idea of the curse, usually falls on the Michael Moorcock's characters. Of course begin a sketch, when I listen heavy metal for 24 hours, my heroes were called Dickinson, Halford, Osbourne .... It occurred to me, the soundtrack of these stories under Judas Priest songs: revenge, motorcycles, cyber enemies and desert plains. The result was that I gave the characters a esthetic costume heavy groups of the eighties. Today, the entire Sálvat history has developed. The first group nine stories, tale about origins of character, his realization, formed and you extrasensory perceptions and their confrontation with the entity that transform an slave. Call that: Sálvat, The Nomad.

Later ihave many ideas for new adventures and I realized to have a trip. Then it occurred to made a motorcycle foe a nomad. I pass months viewing and reviewing journals Paris Dakar’rallies? s Dakar. >I saw Yamaha TX 600 is a reformed, Suzukis models with single-arm cantilever and the bikes circumnavigated the world was a Honda and BMW. but the fairings that I liked were in Kawasaki. He talk me about Masters of Chaos, and Norweign Black Metal. I never hear them and his music dont like me. Names such as Death, Euronymus and Varg Vikernes became normals in my life. Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground is a book by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind. The book presents itself as a non-fiction account of the early Norwegian black metal scene, with a focus on the string of church burnings and murders that occurred in the country around 1993. A film adaptation loosely based on the book and directed by documentary film director Hans Fjellestad is in pre-production.The book has been the subject of an amount of controversy over the alleged political leanings of author Michael Moynihan, though Moynihan denies these allegations.

Publication history

Lords of Chaos was originally published by Feral House in 1998 (ISBN 0-922915-48-2). A second, revised edition was released in 2003 and expands the original book by fifty pages (ISBN 0-922915-94-6). A German edition was published in 2002 with a respective revised edition following in 2005 (ISBN 3-936878-00-5).
The book focuses on the scene surrounding the extreme heavy metal sub-genre black metal in Norway between 1990 and 1993. The first few chapters give an outline of the progression of heavy metal from bands such as Black Sabbath, Coven, and Black Widow to proto-black metal bands such as Bathory, Mercyful Fate, and Venom and finally to the early Norwegian black metal band Mayhem.
The book then details the April 1991 suicide of Mayhem front man Per Yngve "Dead" Ohlin and the formation of a radicalized "inner circle" around Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, based out of his small black metal retail shop Helvete (Norwegian for "hell") in Oslo, Norway.
In 1992 and 1993, members of the group became connected with a series of crimes, starting with the arson of the Fantoft stave church on June 6, 1992, although the book mentions that there had previously been a "small, ineffectual fire at Storeveit Church.". Church arsons continue but with a steady decline up until the year 1995. (The cover of Lords of Chaos shows a "19th Century Swedish church in flames").
An interview in a Norwegian Newspaper given by Burzum founder Varg "Count Grishnackh" Vikernes, also a member of the Helvete group, leads to a media outrage condemning the arsons as acts of Satanism. On August 21, 1992 Bård "Faust" Eithun of the band Emperor murders a homosexual man in the Olympic Park in Lillehammer. He is subsequently convicted of this crime and sentenced to 14 years in prison (of which he subsequently serves nine years before being released in 2003). On August 10, 1993 Aarseth is murdered by Vikernes, who receives a 21 years sentence for the murder and several cases of arson related to the church burnings.

Interview passages with Varg Vikernes are spread out through several sections of the book. On www.burzum.org Vikernes has said, that he would not use the term Nazi any longer as self-descriptor, however, the statement is ambiguous. An interview with Vikernes about Nasjonal Samling founder Vidkun Quisling, executed in 1945 for High treason by the Norwegian government after the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, is the main source for Vikernes admiration of him, and the source for the rumor that Quisling had some influence on certain extreme strains of Norwegian black metal.

The book presents other interviews with Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, Tomas "Samoth" Haugen of Emperor and Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth. Filth claims the existence of a "Satanic Gestapo", when he recounts an incident where he was apparently attacked on stage with a knife (which he states may have been a prop) during a concert in Germany.
Satanism and the heathenism from which it ultimately descends are themselves the products of the archetypes and differentiated psyches of nations and peoples, and they therefore spring from the same “occult” or mystical sources as nationalism itself.

German online magazine Telepolis questioned Moynihan's neutrality towards the ideologies portrayed in the book, as it leaves several far-right and racist statements by interviewees such as Vikernes uncommented on and uncriticized. The author's questions during these interviews are noted to resemble "cue-giving" at times.While a reviewer for the left-oriented German newspaper Die Tageszeitung did not appreciate Moynihan earning royalties from the sales of Lords of Chaos, he still called it "the most thrilling non-fiction book since the Old Testament". Televangelist Bob Larson stated that he and Moynihan were "poles apart spiritually and philosophically", but that he respected the book as an "exhaustive resource regarding the seamy and Satanic side of pop music and culture".

However, an article on www.burzum.com that is allegedly written by Varg Vikernes evaluates the book differently. There it is said that "The book is pretty much objective.", and although this statement is followed by a criticism of some of the people that were interviewed, it is far less polemical than the one on burzum.org. Vikernes states that www.burzum.org is the official site where he speaks out and has asked burzum.com to be shut down, though they refuse to do so for the reason that they believe that Vikernes does not understand what he is asking.

Japanese director Sion Sono is set to direct a movie based on the book, with Vikernes to be played by Twilight actor Jackson Rathbone. Filming is scheduled to begin in Norway in September 2009.

AC / DC, the famous Australian band, surprise the world with the release of "Black Ice" a new album, after eight years without concerts. To celebrate the event I receive a job of making an AC/DC comic, is the first time in Spanish languaje. The Machison' script, a versatile writer with whom I worked. The comic is 128 pages. It was a real race, because I presented to coincide with concerts in Spain. For me it was a great experience. The first album was heard: "Flick of the Switch" in 1984 then known Bon Scott in the film "Let there be Rock". I draw very special moments like tragic death of the vocalist.
